Members:Robin “the Sax” Porter- Alto Saxophone Robin is a young aspiring jazz saxophonist, who originally began on the clarinet. After 5 years he took up alto sax and joined a big band within 3 months. His playing over the past 3 years has vastly improved to a high standard under the guidance of professional jazz musician Zak Barrett, and he has just begun playing tenor saxophone. Aged 17, Robin is attending his final year of Southend High School for Boys and hopes to go to Music College to study jazz. As well as his teacher Zak, Robin takes his influence from saxophonists such as David Sanborn, Chris Potter, Maceo Parker, Gary Meek and Joshua Redman. Oliver “the Bass” Higgs ATCL – Bass Guitar Olly is a self taught bass player and multi instrumentalist, oboe in fact being his main focus, on which he recently achieved a diploma. He picked up bass guitar quickly and after 3 years is already a very talented player. Also aged 17, Olly hopes to take a degree in music after attending his final year at Southend High School for Boys. He takes influence from such bassists as Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten and Sting. Alex “the Box” Cook- Percussion Alex began playing the drum kit aged 11 and under the guidance of Marc Cecil he has grown to be a talented percussionist. Again he is a multi-instrumentalist, playing tenor saxophone to a very high standard. In the Bass, the Box and the Sax, he focuses on the cajon which he started playing a year ago, but uses some other percussion within the trio on occasion. Aged 17, Alex is attending Southend High School for Boys and hopes to take a degree in an engineering related field although he is keen to remain strongly involved with music. He is influenced by drummers such as Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Steve White, Stewart Copeland and Chad Smith. |
